NYAMMED SHERAB GYALTSEN
Nyammed Sherab Gyaltsen lived from 1356 to 1415 AD. He was a great master
in whom all three lineages of Yung Drung Bšn combine. When Yeru Wensa
Kha, the original, main monastery of Bšn, was destroyed in flood and
landslide, Sherab Gyaltsen received oral instruction from Sidpa Gyalmo,
the female deity who is the chief protector of Bšn. She asked him to
establish a new monastery. This he did in 1405 AD. While he remained
in meditation, the Tashi Menri monastery was created miraculously by
the protectors. Thought of as the "mother" monastery of Bšn, its present
incarnation is in Dolanji, India, under the direction of its abbot,
the 33rd Menri Trizin.
Nyammed Sherab Gyaltsen revived the Dru system of teaching the Bšn tradition that had been at Yeru Wensa Kha, and is the author of today's
monastic system. He is revered as a holder of the very source of the tradition.
